EVERETT – Everett Parks & Community Services is seeking community input about expanding the annual hydroplane races at Silver Lake to a two-day event. Community members can provide input by contacting Scott Pool, recreation coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 425-257-7307 or by attending the Board of Parks Commissioners and Tree Committee meeting on Tuesday, March 3, 6 p.m. at Spruce Hall at Forest Park (802 E Mukilteo Blvd.)
The Seattle Outboard Association will hold its 66th annual regatta on Silver Lake the first weekend in June. The mini hydroplane races have been held annually as a one-day event, attracting more than 1,500 participants and spectators. The Seattle Outboard Association is asking to expand it to a two-day event, Saturday and Sunday, June 6-7.
For some, this popular, family-oriented event has been a tradition for decades. Racers participate in racing classes determined by age and motor size, with racers as young as 10 competing. The Seattle Outboard Association is a nonprofit organization that covers all expenses for the regatta with the help of sponsors.
