Water Main Replacement U
The purpose of the project is to replace aging cast iron water mains along Waverly and Baker Avenues. This will reduce the risk of water main breaks.
The project will take place in two locations:
- Waverly Avenue* from:
- Just south of 8th Street to 5th Street
- 5th Street from Legion Golf Course to Legion Drive
- Baker Avenue from 15th to 21st Streets
Road Construction Northwest Inc. will do the work. Normal work hours will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
During work hours, access to the block where the contractor is working will be restricted with traffic control flaggers in place during the day. Expect lane closures. The contractor will notify affected residents prior to the closures. Emergency vehicles will always have access to homes in the work area. Field staff will be available on site to provide project information.
When installation of the pipe is complete, the existing water main will have to be shutoff to make the final connections. During this process, some homes will be temporarily without water. We will notify affected homes 24 hours prior to any outages.
*Final work tasks on the Waverly portion of the project has been suspended to reduce the impact to community members in the area who are staying home due to public health concerns.
Waverly Ave.: Construction began the week of February 10, 2020, and is nearly complete. Work on this portion of the project is currently suspended due to public health concerns. The remaining work involves significant water service interruption when crews connect mainline ties and transfer water service from the old pipe to the new. Resumption of work on this portion of the project is expected to begin in August (following work on the Baker Ave. portion) and should take 3 to 4 weeks.
Baker Ave.: Construction is expected to begin late April 2020 and take approximately 3 months.
All construction progress is dependent on public health measures in response to COVID-19.
